OUR HISTORY
Saint Richard Catholic School is a parish based, Pre-K3 through 6th grade Catholic elementary school. Founded in 1953 by the Sisters of Mercy, our parish, families, and faculty work together to educate the whole child. When the school opened, with the establishment of Saint Richard Parish, the original building consisted of four classrooms, a cafeteria, administrative offices, and an auditorium/gymnasium that also served as the church building until the present church was completed in 1967. Originally, three nuns from the Sisters of Mercy taught grades one through five and a lay teacher taught Kindergarten. Throughout the years, enrollment increased, and the school expanded. In 2000, Saint Richard was one of the first schools in the nation to build a completely accessible playground allowing for children, regardless of abilities, to play. An extensive renovation was also completed in 2010 and more colorful classrooms were designed to further enhance the educational experience of our students. Today our school has over 25 classrooms, a library, a cafeteria, an art room, a music room, a state-of-the-art STREAM Lab and an interactive Makers Space. A multipurpose building that includes a gymnasium and three rooms for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, built by Saint Richard Church, is also available for school activities. For almost 70 years, Saint Richard Catholic School has engaged, enriched, and enlightened students a warm, loving and faith-filled environment.
PRAYER OF SAINT RICHARD
Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which you have given us,
for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us.
Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly, day by day.
Amen.
